Did you know an estimated 6,000 to 8,000 children are born in the United States each year with cleft lip, cleft palate or both, including approximately 200 in the Greater Atlanta area?
Orthodontic care can play an important role in cleft lip and palate treatment, helping guide tooth and jaw development, improve alignment and support future stages of care as a child grows.
For 10 years, Georgia School of Orthodontics has demonstrated a commitment to serving our community and expanding access to orthodontic care. GSO has provided approximately $290,000 in complimentary care through its Purple Heart Smiles and Gift of a Smile community initiatives.
The Cleft Lip & Palate Complimentary Care Program builds on that commitment by providing specialized orthodontic treatment at no cost to up to 100 eligible patients. The program is open to Georgia residents ages 6–21 with a diagnosis of cleft lip and/or cleft palate. No physician referral is required.
“Our hope is that this program creates a lasting impact by making specialized care more accessible to the families who need it. Delivering that care requires an interdisciplinary approach—which really just means teamwork. As orthodontists, we are in constant communication with the surgical team. Together, we sequence our treatments to match the child’s natural growth and surgical milestones, ensuring they receive exactly the right care at the right time.”
